Last week's Rocky Mountain Rally, the penultimate round of the Canadian Rally Championship, was a challenging one for teams. Mountain weather brought heavy rain at times, and tricky conditions. Here's a highlight reel, including some near misses and full-on visits to the scenery for some competitors!

Why didn't Brian inform us that he was participating in this race?

It did indeed. Can any normal person enter?

I'm pretty sure all you need to do is go to a rally school (like them O'Neil) and have a rally car that follows all the safety rules (cage in all the right places and such), and you should be good!
Yes, I think you should convert one of the GTs into a rally car, and rally it. I assume that's why you're inquiring.

Interesting.
Since when did you start reading my mind?

Exactly 34 minutes ago.
I think Tesla rally car would be more reasonable though.

True.
On a semi-related note, I've been looking for a 2009 GT2 for an hour now and the only one that I would really consider is "sale pending." I'm surprised that I'm even finding any as only something like 25 were made that year.

The non RS model? Was that model considered a post refresh car? Because I know the '09 Turbos still came with tiptronics. Going on cars.com quick reveals that there are 3 listed, which seems like a lot. I've never seen a standard GT2 in real life.

Yes. It's kind of odd but, yes, the 2009s are post refresh and that's why I want that particular year, if nothing else than for it's updated PCM.
2008 GT2 PCM
2009 GT2 PCM
Concerning cars.com, I might not be searching the same way that you are, but the 3 GT2s I come up with are 2 2008s and 1 2002.

I absolutely love them. They're aggressive but in that subtle Porsche way.

Yeah I just realized they're '08s. My bad.
The non RS GT2s have the ultimate 911 sleeper status. Because it's not yelling at you that it's the fastest 911.

It's alright. Thanks for trying. I've been searching quite a bit and get excited when I get results only to find that they are '08s.
Exactly and I miss that.
Also, concerning Tiptronic and the 2009 Turbo, I found out that PDK was offered in '09 but only on the Carrera, Carrera S, Boxster, and Cayman. The Turbo didn't get it until '10 because it couldn't handle the torque. Here's the exert from Wikipedia:
The first variant, the 7DT-45, [42] is used on its 2009 997 Carrera and Carrera S models. [3] [43] [77] [78] This version is also offered on the 2009 Cayman, [3] [42] Boxster [3] [42] It uses a ZF Sachs ND2015 clutch pack, [42] and has a torque handling capacity of 500 Nm (369 lbfft). [42] A higher torque version of the same transmission, the 7DT-70, [42] is also available for the 2010 911 Turbo. [42] [79] This is rated at 780 Nm (575 lbfft), [42] and uses a different ZF Sachs clutch—the ND2216.

Interesting. I guess they really wanted to get the PDK out.
Good luck on your search, I wouldn't be disappointed if a GT2 replaced the McLaren. Or if it's just an addition. You should buy/build a garage.

I guess so.
We'll see. I just miss the rawness of my 997 GT2 and GT2 RS and feel like with modern tires (the Pilot Sport Cup 2s fit the standard rim), I could really use almost all of its power rather than simply managing it most of the time. Also, the prices are quite attractive.
I've definitely considered it.

Yes, in the 458 SpecialeA video you posted, the presenter commented on how well the Cup2s performed. They've come quite a long way in a very short time.
I also found this little gem just now: http://www.hemmings.com/classifieds/ca…

Indeed. I can remember that the Pilot Sport Cup+ / N-Specs (OEM tire on both GT2s) were terrific in the dry but a bit nervous in the wet.
Ah, yes. I've seen this car before and considered calling about it, but ultimately didn't as I want a 1600S. Beautiful car though and the yellow wheels actually fit quite well with it.

You don't even need to do a rally school (although it is advised). Rent/buy/borrow a rally car, sign up for a license, and have at it! Best thing to do is volunteer at a rally and meet the people involved...lots of great people willing to help.

I agree. They look beautiful until you click to enlarge them and discover that they're tiny.
I found out some more information about that rally event:
